About the Event
Makadnaal trek
One of the toughest trails to reach the majestic Harishchandragad is the route that begins at Makadnaal, which lies adjacent to the Naalichi Vaat on the opposite end of the breathtaking Kokankada. This particular trail is not for the faint-hearted; it challenges even seasoned trekkers with its rugged terrain and demanding ascents. As we embark on this adventure, the trail takes us through a series of depressions adorned with large boulders nestled in the crevices, creating a natural obstacle course that requires careful navigation and a keen sense of balance.
The path is punctuated by rocky patches that test our agility and endurance. Among the most daunting sections of the trek is a steep vertical rock patch that rises approximately 90 feet into the air. This formidable ascent necessitates the use of safety gear, including ropes and harnesses, to ensure safety. As we prepare to tackle this challenging section, we meticulously fix a rope and provide belaying support to every trekker, ensuring that everyone can ascend safely and confidently. The sense of accomplishment upon conquering this rock patch is palpable, as it marks a significant milestone in our journey.
Once we successfully navigate the Maladnaal, the trail leads us to a stunning plateau that lies adjacent to the towering Taramati peak and Rohidas. We begin our descent towards the quaint Khireshwar village, a charming settlement that provides a glimpse into the local culture and lifestyle. Along the way, we are treated to the sight of several prominent geological formations, including the Shendi pinnacle, Rohidas, Taramati, and Balekilla, each of which adds to the rich tapestry of the landscape we traverse. The trek not only challenges our physical limits but also rewards us with breathtaking vistas and a deep connection to the natural world.
This trek to Harishchandragad via Makadnaal is not just a physical endeavor; it is an immersive journey that leaves trekkers with lasting memories of the rugged terrain, the camaraderie of fellow adventurers, and the awe-inspiring beauty of the Sahyadri mountains.
